NTS is available on the Shortcuts app for iOS, allowing you to set up shortcuts on your Home screen or Control Centre to play live channels 1 and 2. With Shortcuts, you can also play live channels using Siri or wake up to NTS by setting an automation.
The instructions below have been written for iOS 18+. Please check Apple’s Shortcuts documentation for older versions as instructions may differ.
Set up NTS Shortcuts
Open the Shortcuts app
Tap the + icon in the top right corner to create a new shortcut
Search for ‘NTS’
Select ‘Play NTS Live 1’ or ‘Play NTS Live 2’
You can now use this shortcut anywhere it’s available including Siri!
Add to Home Screen
Open the Shortcuts app
Long press your NTS shortcut to open up options, and select ‘Edit’
Tap the down arrow next to the shortcut name to see more options
Select ‘Add to Home Screen’ and follow the prompts to customise your shortcut
Once added, your shortcut will appear on the Home screen and you can use it to quickly play and pause your selected live channel
Add to Control Centre
Open the Control Centre
Tap the + icon in the top left corner
Tap ‘Add a Control’ at the bottom of your screen
Search for ‘Shortcuts’ and select the ‘Shortcut’ button
Tap ‘Choose’ and then select your NTS shortcut
Now you can play NTS directly from your Control Centre
NTS Alarm
Open the Shortcuts app
Go to the Automation tab
Tap ‘New Automation’
Under Personal Automation, tap ‘Alarm’
Make sure 'Is Stopped' is ticked, and then select the alarm you want NTS to start playing after
Make sure ‘Run Immediately’ is ticked
Select your NTS shortcut from the next screen
Now NTS will automatically play after you turn off your alarm in the morning!
Note: you can play NTS instead of your alarm sound by selecting ‘Goes Off’ instead of ‘Is Stopped’ in step 5, however this automatically stops your alarm in the morning and disables snooze functionality.
